48-50005-01 Drive Gear Coupling Kit — Yellow Oil-Filled Nylon | Carrier Transicold X4
Still running the blue gear? That's the old one.
Carrier moved from the blue 48-50005-00 to the yellow 48-50005-01. Same fit, same 6-bolt pattern, different material — and the material is the entire point.
What actually kills these couplers
Most people assume the gear snaps. It doesn't. It cooks.
Dry nylon has high friction at the tooth face. Every torque pulse from the diesel scrubs the teeth against the hub, and that friction becomes heat with nowhere to go. Nylon softens as it heats. Soft teeth deform under load. Deformed teeth concentrate stress onto a smaller and smaller contact patch.
Then one pulse too many, and a tooth walks out.
Add misalignment and it accelerates — now two teeth carry what six were designed to share.
What the yellow gear does differently
Internal lubrication. The oil is in the material, not on it. It doesn't wash out, wipe off, or run dry. Lower friction at the tooth face means less heat generated in the first place.
Higher elongation. More stretch before failure means the coupler works as a damper. Torque spikes get absorbed and returned instead of transmitted straight through as a crack.
Balanced stiffness. Rigid enough to hold precise tooth geometry under load. Compliant enough to tolerate the misalignment that exists on every unit in the real world.
Strength alone doesn't win here. A rigid, high-strength gear transmits every shock straight into its own teeth. The one that survives is the one that absorbs abuse without overheating.
Fitment
Primary — current X4 fleet:
X4 7700 · X4 7500 · X4 7300
Also fits: X4 6600 MT · Ultima XTC · ULTRA XL / XTC / XT / ULTRA · Europhoenix · X2 1800 / 2100 / 2100A / 2100R / 2500A / 2500R
If you're running an X4 7700, 7500, or 7300, this is your gear. The older Ultima, ULTRA, and X2 units are still covered — those are aging out of most fleets, but if you've still got them on the yard, the same coupler drops in.

What's in the box
- Yellow oil-filled nylon drive gear
- Complete 6-bolt hardware set
Before you install
Check your engine and compressor mount alignment first. A new gear in a misaligned drive is a new gear with a short life. This coupler tolerates misalignment better than the old one — it doesn't cure it.
